WHAT WE DO

Shout-It-Now uses innovative technology to teach teens and teachers about HIV/AIDS and encourage them to get tested. Why online? Because people are more comfortable learning about sensitive subjects like sex and HIV when they are not in a group setting. We don't tell them in a boring way but have well known 'cool' musicians and sports stars on video talking to them in ways they will understand and remember.

Our software platform has another significant advantage. We don’t just hope to change behaviour – we actually can measure behaviour change and our programme’s efficacy. We are able to confidentially record when a client watches our programme and determine immediately what they learned and how their attitudes change. During our 2008 trial we were able to track a dramatic behaviour change when we measured a 92% increase in 'test today' during our 14 minute on-line video. With biometric fingerprint technology we can individually and confidentially measure our impact upon HIV knowledge and infection rates over a learner's school career.

This is how we do it:

Shout-It-Now doesn't depend on a "build-it and they will come" mentality. We incentivise teens with rewards for watching our programme and yes, passing a test. The rewards are things that teens value like music, ring tones, mobile minutes and games.

All HIV test results –positive or negative – are delivered one-on-one by our highly trained counsellors after the school day. Confidentiality is key to keep people from being stigmatised and personalized counselling encourages people to seek treatment.

For our HIV+ clients we have developed TACT™, our Treatment and Care Transition process. Shout-It-Now has partnered with local teen friendly clinics that will provide free CD4 counts and ARV treatment if necessary. Like all other parts of our programme our case workers individually track each HIV+ client to make sure they get into the right treatment programme.

But schools don't have the technology infrastructure? No problem, we bring the technology and testing labs to the schools. Just as importantly, we promote the opportunity to learn and test at the schools with music and celebrities, creating a rock concert environment.
