Shout-It-Now was founded in 2007 by a small group of technology executives that wanted to contribute to fighting the current epidemic of HIV and teen pregnancy. Many of the founders have substantial experience in starting new companies. Each member has volunteered time, money or expertise to create Shout-It-Now. We are dedicated to creating effective partnerships with schools, businesses, celebrities and, most importantly, with our teen audience.
While we are a secular non-profit organisation our approach is very similar to running a profit- driven business. Specifically, we establish plans and critically measure our success and failure against those plans. Shout-It-Now takes a pragmatic approach to solving problems. We’re to-the-point, non-bureaucratic, efficient and goal-oriented.

Our People:

Temba Shumba was born in 1974 in Guguletu, a township in Cape Town, South Africa. As a teenager, he started exploring his artistic talents and became involved in community/ protest theatre and music. In 1996, he did his first professional recording under the mentorship of the famed hip hop group, Prophets of the City (POC). In Teba’s words: "Music, specifically hip hop and reggae, exposed me to higher awareness of myself, the community and the world". While living in Johannesburg in 1997, he started ‘’Movement 76’’ to highlight social causes including HIV/AIDS and to use the arts as a tool for healing. Teba is passionate about utilizing art as a platform for reaching out to the community and helping to solve problems and his involvement in Shout-It-now is another avenue to reach this goal. |
Dedicated to the memory Thembi Ngubane (1985 to 2009)
Shout-It-Now has dedicated our first programme to the memory of Thembi Ngubane who was our brave spokesperson and who died on 5 June 2009 at the age of 24. Thembi was born in Khayelitsha and was diagnosed with HIV at the age of 19. Unlike most people, Thembi announced her status to the world and fought to change the availability of care and the stigma associated with the disease. Thembi achieved international fame when she recorded her battle with HIV for National Public Radio in the USA. Thembi talked candidly on video about the rules for people who are HIV+ but more importantly talked about her hopes and dreams. |
